A QUICK GUIDE TO MOULDINGS

When redecorating, remodeling, or building a home, mouldings will be used. Many individuals have trouble deciphering on what type of moulding to use and where to use it. Below is a list of common mouldings, what they are, and where they go.

CASE:

Casing is used around doors, windows, and archways. See our case here

BASE:

Base is used towards the bottom of walls. It is the median between the a wall and floor.

Base can also be used in conjunction with crown to exaggerate the detail and size of the crown. See our base here

BACKBAND:

Used in combination with case to add detail and height. See our backband here

CROWN:

Crown  is used at the top of the wall. It can be used to decorate ceilings and corner walls. See our crown here

PANEL MOULDING:

Used to create panels on an empty wall. The panel moulding is used to duplicate the look of a true wainscoted wall for half the cost. See our panel mouldings here

CHAIR MOULDING:

Chair is used in the middle of walls to separate colors, paneling, etc. See our chair moulding here

COVE MOULDING:

A modern, non-decorative crown. Individuals also use small 3/4 cove mouldings on stairways. See our cove here

SHOE MOULDING:
